I’ve got a soft spot for small jigs. There’s something ridiculously fun about watching a bass smash a downsized swim jig on light gear—it just hits different. I started tinkering with mini swim jigs during a recent stretch, and since then, they’ve earned permanent residency in my lineup.
What I love about these little jigs is they let you fish aggressively and still get bit in tough conditions—clear water, high pressure, cold fronts, you name it. They’re compact, relatively snagless, and downright fishy when built right. And the best part? They’re crazy satisfying to make.

Mini Swim Jigs Black ‘n Blue Recipe

The Poison Tail Jig Mold is popular, and for good reason. This mold produces super sweet looking swim jigs that flat out catch fish!
👉 Black Protec Powder Paint
Nothing to write home about here – just your basic gloss black jig head powder paint.
👉 Gold 3D Eyes 1/8″
Using gold eyes here to give this mini swim jig a pop of color.
Mini Swim Jig Skirt
👉 1 Tab Blue Crystal Silicone
To build the belly color of this swim jig, I started with a 1 tab of this blue silicone material. This pop of blue gives the black ‘n blue jig some nice contrast in dirty water situations.
👉 1 Tab Black Silicone
The meat and potatoes of this jig skirt – solid black silicone.
👉 6 Strands Black-Blue Scale Silicone
If you used merely solid black and solid blue silicone, you’d have a jig that would catch fish. I’m adding this black-blue scale silicone to give this jig a little extra pizzazz….because I can….and I like it.

👉 VMC 7150BN 1/0 Spinnerbait Hook

👉 Black FG-12 Weedguard
Full size swim jigs come equipped with a stiffer FG-30 weedguard. This mini swim, however, is built with a thinner FG-12 weedguard, which allows for easier hook sets with lighter line.
👉 Connector Link Size 1
To use a spinnerbait hook with the Poison Tail Swim Jig mold, I had to take one of these connector links and bend it to the right shape and size for the eye of the jig. This makes it possible to use whatever spinnerbait hook or worm hook you like for these mini swim jigs. Connect the link and the hook, pop them in the mold, and pour away!
